History of Lynwood Setters

I bought my first Irish Setter with my first wage packet upon leaving school in 1973. My parents had always said we wouldn’t have another dog after our old Jack Russell Cross had died so I didn’t tell them until I had paid the deposit!
In time I was forgiven as the whole family became involved in showing dogs, my Mum and Dad having purchased a Shetland Sheepdog from my sister and several others followed.
Sirocco Sunset, “Lucky” was not the wisest of purchases, he was from a puppy farmer and his mother and father were brother and sister out of the same litter! Dad and I showed him at Exemption shows and did very well but he really was a very poor example of the breed which I realised when I started to enter open shows.

Determined to not make the same mistake twice, a year later I purchased Trellis of Wendover from Mr & Mrs James of the famous Wendover Kennels. At the time puppies were £35 but I paid £75 for her as she was 7 months old, it is a decision I have never regretted.
From Trellis’s first litter I kept a dog, Lynwood Rancher, who went on to win 1CC and 2 Res.CC’s.

I did not keep anything from her next litter but four of the puppies went on to win Championship show firsts, one of which Lynwood Meadow Dancer, along with Rancher, is behind all the home bred Lynwoods via Fleetfoot Sweet Sorrel of Lynwood (Bridie).
In 2006 Fern mated to Sh Ch Caskeys Concept at Aoibheanne produced Sh Ch Lynwood Follow Your Dreams JW (Bliss). Fern then mated to the Swedish dog, Copper's Bubblande Glad gave us Sh Ch Lynwood Started With A Kiss JW (Sky) and Sandy Waterton's Sh Ch Lynwood Kissed By An Angel at Sandstream JW.

In 2009 James joined us from Sweden and soon became Sh Ch Coppers Undercover at Lynwood JW.

We started a new venture in 2012 when our first English Setter entered our lives, Quensha Summer Nights at Lynwood. Zest has made a good start in the show ring and is a delight to own.

Tragedy struck in 2012 when our beautiful Bliss died having a caesarian. Thanks to the generosity of Claire Prangle, whose bitch Grace helped rear the babies, five puppies survived.

I must mention that I have also owned 3 Gordon Setters, in the 70’s - Shorehill Lingmoor, in the 80’s-90’s Wickenberry Harmony At Lynwood, 1CC 2 Res CC’s and Sh Ch Liric Scottish Romeo At Lynwood.

We aim to produce sound and beautiful Irish Setters with the lovely temperament the breed is renowned for.

Bridie mated to Gimaroch Summer Harvest produced Lynwood Miss Be Having (Spice) who gained her Junior Warrant and Stud book Number, when mated to Navylark Orpheus, Spice gave me Lynwood Manhatten, Res.CC winner and Lynwood Mega-Star, dam of Angela Roberts Lynwood Castaspell at Polmennor, 2 Res.CC’s and my own Lynwood Chase The Ace who also gained his stud book number and junior warrant, both by Sh Ch Clonageera Genesis.

Mega-Star was then mated to Sh Ch Caspians Intrepid and produced my first Show Champion Lynwood Timeltell (Erin)7 CC’s 6 Res CC’s.
Erin’s first litter was to Sh Ch Thendara the Tourist, producing Sh Ch Lynwood Promises Promises to Gimaroch and Sh Ch Lynwood Pioneer of Seadog.

Erin’s second and final litter was by Sh Ch Konakakela Zagar by Romarne and from this litter we kept Sh Ch Lynwood Sealed with a Kiss JW (Fern).

In 2004 we bought in Connor who became Sh Ch Scotselaw Jackson at Lynwood JW.
